Absorbing Waves by Parabolic Damping is Not as Efficient as One Would Hope

Surrounding a region containing annoying hyperbolic waves (noise or vibrations) by a parabolic absorbing layer can never lead to exponential decay. Waves decay no faster than polynomially. This talk is devoted to explaining, with the aid of asymptotic solutions, why the better decay cannot occur.
